Our Goal

We are frequently reminded of a disturbing aspect regarding the demographics of our individual lodges and the local Fraternity as a whole. This aspect is the advancing age and thinning availability of Brothers who are able to perform our Funeral Lecture. One of the primary responsibilities of a lodge is to provide funeral services for a Brother when he is taken. Doing so has become more and more difficult in the last few years due to the scarcity of Brothers who are able to perform the lecture. The recent development of the COVID-19 virus may further stricken our ability to satisfy this sacred duty.
In light of this gathering situation, the Central Indiana Freemasons Association (formerly the Masters and Wardens Association of Marion and surrounding counties) intends to solicit volunteers and maintain a database of Brethren who are willing to help assist local lodges.
To be clear, this is an effort to help coordinate assistance for local lodges, NOT to take over the responsibility. The opening of a Lodge of Sorrow, coordinating with Local Funeral homes and Families (Per the Grand Masters directions) are the responsibility of the Lodge itself.
This is a chance for younger Freemasons to answer the Fraternity’s call by learning to give or assist in performing the Rite. If you are interested in information regarding this effort, please message me or contact us at FreemasonsAssociation@gmail.com We can answer any questions you might have and if you are willing, provide you with a list of data we would like to keep on file. I also have a pdf. of the Indiana Funeral Service for anyone who is interested. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

        Sincerely and Fraternally,
